VINCY MAS Promoted In L.A
Vincy Mas came in for some added promotion at the recently concluded Los Angles carnival. In a related carnival activity dubbed ‘A Taste of Carnival’, the Los Angeles based, Vincy oriented organization, Caribbean Roots and Culture (CRC), set up an ‘All Ting Vincy’ booth.
The booth played particular attention to highlighting Vincy mas, putting on display, among other exhibits, the Carnival Power.Com ‘Vincy Mas Highlights’ DVD, and THE VINCENTIAN Carnival Souvenir Magazine.
Also, in keeping with the group’s intention to expose as much about the efforts of SVG and Vincentians, the work of the Kerosene Lamp Foundation (KLF), founded by NBA veteran player Adonal Foyle to empower youth to grow into healthy and well-educated adults, was also highlighted.
In addition, there were photograph displays of the Argyle International Airport, quite a favourtie with visitors to the booth, and the work of Vivie Joseph, a display entitled ‘A Glimpse of Vincy Land’ which featured spices, fruits and vegetables grown in their natural environment in SVG, and how they are used in traditional dishes.
According to Kojo and Addie Mason, founders of the Caribbean Roots and Culture (CRC). the CRC “is more than just a carnival band organization. Its mission is to promote a sense of community and an appreciation for African and Caribbean cultures by engaging members for the past five years, both young and old, in the creation of costumes, music, dance and street performance at San Francisco Carnival, which takes place annually during Memorial Day weekend in San Francisco, California.”
CRC also donates funds to organizations that help the homeless and disadvantaged youth in SVG. The CRC is planning to expand the range of products from SVG, funding permitting. “We are in desperate need of sponsors to make this expansion a reality,” appealed the Masons. CRC can be contacted at
